Early Bird Specials

I think you'll agree that it's always a good thing to arrive at a yard sale early and have first pick of the litter.  That happened to me twice last weekend.   I was out and about for a couple of 7am flops when I thought I'd take my chances and do an early drive by for a sale that started at 8am.  Good decision!!

She was waiting for me along with the typewriter, metal drawers, lamp, and the cast iron chair that looks like it's wearing socks.

There was no way she'd still be standing in the driveway at 8am.  Her perfect body has been attached to a very heavy vintage floor lamp.

Nice legs!

I couldn't believe it when I asked if they had any typewriters and out came this 1950s Royal from the dark side of the garage.

Of all the typewriters I've purchased over the years, this one is in the best working condition.

This fabulous old lamp still works.  Love that light bulb!

I was at the next sale all by myself when the doors opened at 8am.   I went through a box of antique photos and got a great deal on a group of fifteen.  I also found some galvanized buckets, large frame,  a stool, and some miscellaneous trinkets.

I love group photos.

This rubber stamp holder will soon be displaying vintage photos.

Isn't it great to shop without a crowd?

  1. You definitely scored at those garage sales! I'm glad we don't shop together because we'd be fighting over the same things! Can't pick a favorite because it's all good....and I love old group photos too, they always intrigue me.

  2. Hi Betsy, yeah... early birds always get great picks...these certainly are! Love the chair, typewriter and the metal box! There is no doubt about it, you found some nice bargains. Now, to see how you will work them...now that's worth the wait! XO

  3. you were lucky. where I live in France selling like this is called a 'Vide Grenier'( empty your attic) sale and it's always the dealers who arrive first, sometimes offering a price for everything !!

  8. Did you keep your poker face when negotiating for the dress form on that gorgeous lamp base? I would have been panting and pop-eyed, they would have raised the price immediately. Score!

  10. Good Afternoon Betsy, My word, you found some wonderful goodies. What a great idea the previous owner of the body form had, to attached it to a sturdy lamp....it looks so glamorous.
The typewriter takes me back to my days as a young secretary....vintage items have a habit of doing that to you.
Thank you for sharing these items with us all.
    Enjoy your day.
    Best Wishes

    :)

Congrats on the wonderful haul. The Dress Form is outta this world. I did that very thing to a dress form top I had...used a pretty lamp to dress her up but she doesn't look like yours.

    You go girl.

  22. Oh my gosh!!! What wonderful finds. I would have wanted the same items you chose. Love the dress form, old photos, well everything!! Good job!

  23. You sure scored. That dress form is so unusual mounted on the old lamp base. In our neck of the woods an 8:00 sale means be there at 7:00 unless it's posted no early birds. I always find the coolest stuff if I get there early, and like you said, it's so quiet.

  24. Oh.My.Gosh. Betsy, this is an amazing score. I am drooling on my keyboard. I can imagine you were just hugging each and every item to your chest as you hauled them to the car. It doesn't get much better. Good job, girl!!!

  27. You were a lucky early bird! I would have fought you for that rubber stamp holder. I use them to display vintage Christmas ornaments but I love your idea about the old photos!!! Congrats on your finds!

  28. I'm so envious that you've been able to get out the yard sales. I've been itching to get out to some, haven't quite made it yet. Of course I never find cool stuff like that around here. I love finding old photos, but I always find it a little sad that they've been lost to a family. It makes me curious about their story.

  29. I'm back from Indiana and didn't have the great finds you did~I think I'm getting to picky:):):) Nice finds girl!!!
