Winter Wonderland Paintings

Look what I found hiding in a closet at an estate sale.  The two of them were leaning against the wall and partially hidden by a pile of outdated stereo equipment, but it was worth the long reach into the closet to get a closer look.

Paint by number?  Someone did a much better job at blending the colors than what I usually see.  They're not exactly what I'd have hanging around in my home all year long, but after a simple makeover I thought they'd be perfect during the holidays.

Much better after a coat of snowy white paint, but they still needed a little something extra.

Bottle brush trees to the rescue!  I gathered a few vintage items from around the house to use as tree stands.

I love the sweet country barn...

...and the farmhouse next door.

I think they'll be perfect propped up on my living room fireplace mantel once I finally have a chance to dig out the rest of my Christmas treasures.  Is there anyone else out there who hasn't done a bit of Christmas decorating yet?  Why do I feel so alone, LOL?

I'd love for you to stay connected with My Salvaged Treasures.  I'm just one click away.

  1. I never start till the day after Thanksgiving but since we have two Thanksgivings this year, I guess it will be tomorrow (though I did get a couple of trees in place and all the autumn down.) Bit by bit -- but it'll be a full day tomorrow!

  3. They do sort of look like paint by numbers, but like you said someone did a better job of blending.
Don't feel alone - I have not done any decorating either.
    Enjoy your weekend.

  4. I love paint by numbers and they are perfect for the holidays. If it makes you feel any better, I have done one single bit of Christmas decorating yet. Big sigh.

  5. It's kind of shocking how much classier they look with the antiqued white frames! And with the bottle brushes, such an adorable tableau! I am delighted anew with your decorating genius, and also proud of myself for spelling tableau correctly. Oh, Betsy, we are good.

  7. Those are some pretty good paint by number pictures. The frames looks so good painted white. I have a snow scene by Grandma painted (not by number..lol) and I'm going to use it this year in my holiday decor that I have not started yet. You are not alone.

  9. Yes...I have zero Christmas decor out yet. I just put away my small vignette of Fall/Autumn pumpkins. Lovely paintings and so happy you are saving them. Sharing Joy...

  10. I like paint-by-numbers, too, it is a reminder of other days. Contrary to popular belief, they weren't that easy to do. I do like the simple shapes and I remember the smell of the oil paints.

  12. I believe they are definitely paint by number as the farmhouse one looks so familiar! I think they may be from late 50's, early 60's. Perfect for Christmas vignette.

  13. Sweet! Do they still have those color by numbers paintings? I remember those!

Nope! Richard pulled everything out of the closet and the tree is up but not decorated. It's too early for me. I like my fall decor but Richard is ready for Christmas!

  14. I am so glad I read your post this morning. I wanted some bottlebrush trees and the only ones I could find were white. I had no idea what to do with them and then I saw how you paired them with tarnished silver. Mine will be copying yours today!

  16. Oh it's perfect! They all look great together. It's an art being able to bring life to old things.

We don't start decorating until the 1st of December. It's 2 days from now so yeeah we're setting up the tree so soon. :)

  18. So pretty Betsy! I love both of them and the frames look so pretty in white. The bottle brush trees are so sweet with their different bases. I can't wait to see more of your decor. Have a blessed Sunday.]

Love the trees in the vintage cups and flower frog (?). I have my silver baby cup and might steal this idea! I have not done a bit of Christmas decorating yet - so don't feel lonely :) I guess I had better get a move-on! xo Karen

  22. Oh what lucky finds! They are really pretty and love that they are snow screens. As a little girl I would love to paint by number and always got one for Christmas. I like that you painted the frame white too. Love the bottle brush trees too1
