Trash to Treasure Cubbies

A few months ago I discovered a very interesting case of boxes at an antique fair. At first glance, I was attracted to the nine small metal boxes inside, but then I realized the case also had some serious potential.

It took a lot of elbow grease to remove the grime, but it was SO worth it!

Before the cleanup effort. Nasty!
After I pried off the lid (I'll use it in another project), I removed the chunks of debris and spider webs. The inside was still too gunky for my comfort level, so I painted it with black acrylic craft paint for a clean matte finish.

The case originally housed these old pay phone coin boxes that I showed you a couple of months ago in my latest junking haul post.

Now it's a cool and clean cubby perfect for displaying some of my treasures.

Black and white family photos, heart cookie cutter, tarnished silver cup with a 55 license plate tag, crystal door knob on a silver treasure box, and a vintage clock to remind me that it's 5:00 somewhere.

Coin box  #31093 is the perfect size for this small faux topiary tree.

Much better now, don't you think so?
