A Second Life for Some Funky Junk

I've been taking advantage of our cooler than average weather the last couple of days and finally got around to some repurposing projects out in the garage.

First operation was this 1972 lamp I bought  at a yard sale a couple of months ago for $5.00.  I hauled it around to a couple of shows and not one person even asked about it.  No surprise there.  What was I thinking?  The glass had a big hole in the bottom where the cord passed through; so much for the vase idea.
I painted the bottom portion white and will use that in another project.

I spray painted the ring black and then cut out a circle from a $1.00 garage sale cork board.  I covered the cork board with burlap, glued it in from the back, and added a heavy silver chain that used to be a necklace.....

From ugly duckling lamp to a functional frame.
This is a side shot to show the detail of the ring.

Second operation:  I found  this strange, heavy iron, screw looking thingy at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago.  I'm still not sure what it was.....

Now it's a picture holder!
I sprayed it with a matte sealer and then coiled some wire around it.  The wire was easy enough to shape but heavy enough to stay in place.

I don't have a before picture of this third remake because I repurposed it a couple of months ago.
The chippy frame used to be a house number/address sign.  I added some vintage sheet music, some little flat back stones, and a chain for hanging.

  1. I LOVE the frame you made!! The burlap with the lamp ring work so well together!!

  2. OMG!!! You are a creative goddess!
I LUV LUV LUV what you did!
I have a vintage filigree vanity tray that had a little "accident" and the mirror broke, now I now exactly what I'm going to do with it YAY!...and your little frame is AMAZING with the little stones, I just purchased a vintage hymnal that I think I will use...I'm thinking Amazing Grace for my wall, another YAY!!!

Thank you SO much for sharing your wonderful ideas, I can't wait to get started!

  3. Brilliance! I love when something comes from nothing...just like that! I had to laugh at your comment on another post about Frank & Mike...I just LOVE that show...they find some pretty neat junk! You give me such inspiration...I am really glad I found your blog!

  6. This is great! I love these ideas. I wonder what you did with that lamp base??? ;) I'd love it if you linked up to my Friday link party!

  7. I love the musical wall hanging. Those stones are the perfect finishing touch!

  8. The music hanging is so cute (well, really it all is cute) but I love the Home On The Range. That's a great idea.

  9. You did good on the lamp ring. I hauled one around like that also and finally threw it in the trash. I even tried to give it away at a yard sale.

I just love seeing what people come up with. very clever
