Pass the Salt and Pepper Shaker Necklaces

I've been polishing, poking, wiring and decorating another batch of salt and pepper shakers.

It was difficult to clean the inside of most of these, and I'm not crazy about the idea of shaking bits and pieces of gunk into my food.  Oh what fun it was to transform these tattered and tarnished old beauties!

Before.  Remember these shakers I found at the Alameda Antique Faire a couple of weeks ago?  I found the other two at an estate sale last weekend and they were almost completely black with tarnish.

The lids screw on and off for storing tiny treasures.  Just add a dab of E6000 glue if you need a more permanent bond.

P is for pepper.  Perfect for Princess Pearl in Paris.

I used a small nail and hammer to punch a hole in the top and bottom to accommodate the head pin, then formed a small loop on the bottom for the bead charm.

A larger wrapped loop was formed on the top to accommodate the chain.

I still think they'd make pretty ornaments or light pulls if you don't want to wear one around your neck.
You can see my last batch of salt and pepper shaker necklaces here.

These are gorgeous. I wonder why they made them so small to begin with. Did each guest get his own?

These are beautiful as necklaces, but I can also envision them as ornaments. They would be perfect on a Victorian themed tree. Thanks for sharing your tips on how to construct them...you are so inspiring!!! Have a lovely week Mickie

It's fabulous!

Adorable Betsy! Thank you for all of the detailed instructions. I figure they made small shakers so that far into the future some talented jewelry maker would transform them into adorable necklaces!
