Guest Cottage Towel and Accessory Hangers

Every guest needs a little extra hanging space for towels, coats, keys, or accessories. Right?  Heck, I think every home needs some extra space for hanging just about anything!

Guest Cottage Towel and Accessory Hangers
I found myself an old board, painted it, stenciled some cute words (from my Silhouette Cameo),
then added vintage hardware for a cottagey look.

Trash to Treasure Towel and Accessory Hangers
I found part of an oak table top in the free pile at a yard sale a few months ago and knew it had
great potential as a sign. This thing is 41" long and heavy!!

Much, much better after a facelift. I was anxious to start some new projects with the Fusion Mineral Paint that was sent to me to try out.  I painted the old table top with two coats of Champlain (love this neutral color), then lightly distressed the edges and top with fine sandpaper. Even though this board was a complete mess, I didn't need to prime or top coat, and it didn't bleed through!  Don't you love it when that doesn't happen?

Trash to treasure salvaged mirror frame
Next up is this fake wood lattice thing I found at a flea market for $5. I was told that it came from the top of a mirror frame. Makes sense to me.

I painted it with a half and half mixture of Fusion Mineral Paint Prairie Sunset and Champlain, then distressed it just a little so the details would stand out.  I rummaged through my stash of old wooden knobs and found five that were a perfect fit for the narrow space. The original bolts were either missing or too long, so I cut down some new bolts, then screwed and glued them on.

I'll be bringing both of these to my next big vintage show on Sept. 18 and 19. They look naked, but I was afraid I'd get too attached if I started hanging my own stuff on them. I wish I could keep everything!!

Betsy, I really like them both but the cutout one would be my choice to buy! Love the colors!

  2. Glenda/MidSouthAugust 21, 2015 at 2:31 PM

Two more great projects. I predict they will sell fast!
    Enjoy your weekend!

I love how you repurposed what others threw out.

  4. Donna WilkesAugust 21, 2015 at 4:27 PM

Love how you recycled the two pieces.

Wow...impressive!!! I love how you see potential in things!

  7. KathyAugust 21, 2015 at 8:41 PM

    Great projects, both!!

  8. Michelle L.August 21, 2015 at 9:55 PM

Ooh, the curved table end is so perfectly repurposed! I have seen them in alleys and been so tempted - but never had a vision of how to use one, so just left them there. That, my dear, is because I'm not you. Of course you want to keep strong, Betsy, be strong!

They are both beautiful, Betsy! I love the unusual shape of the table part sign. The wood latice piece looks great as well. Soft yellow is one of my favorite colors at the moment.
    Have a great weekend!

    Good Morning Betsy,
They are both beautiful and unique. Have a wonderful week end.

I know what you mean about keeping things. We have to be strong and let go. lol. These both turned out great. I especially love the guest cottage one.

Gorgeous and creative-you nailed it Betsy!

  13. Laurel@ChippingwithCharmAugust 22, 2015 at 7:22 AM

    Never too many them both!

  14. JeanieAugust 22, 2015 at 7:48 AM

These are terrific, Betsy. I know what you mean -- if I started to use them they would never leave my space! Very nice -- I don't think they'll hang around your booth very long!

Betsy, I love both these pieces. I always have problems letting go of things too. We should form a club.

I did the same thing with an old chair back! In my bathrooms I used wrought iron wine racks that I painted as guest towel holders. I roll up the towels and shove them in!

  17. PseudoShrinkAugust 22, 2015 at 5:13 PM

Both so lovely! But I'm partial to the second one because of the lattice pattern.

I want everything you make!! These are fabulous! I just got some rusty hooks to do a similar sign with some old boards and new stencils I have. Excited now to start mine after I saw yours!

Great makeovers. Some lucky people are going to snap these up!

Love both of them!! I have 2 signs that I want to re-do so thanks so much for the inspiration. Thanks too for taking the time to stop by and leave such kind comments! I really appreciate it!!

I love them both. I wish I had a place to hang one.

The way you can take almost nothing and turn it into something both beautiful and useful, that is a real gift Betsy.

  23. Sherry@Back2VintageAugust 24, 2015 at 10:16 AM

Wish I could find a free pile like that one. Great makeovers!!!

Love both of these Betsy. I think you can take ANYTHING and turn it into something beautiful. You're just one of those people who have "the touch" :)
