Nana's Paintings

Every now and then I need a little vacation from junking and creating.  I don't know if I should blame it on the heat or blame it on all the pesky projects around the house that need my attention. How about both? It was nice to take a step back this week and focus my energy on all the little things that had to get done. Somewhere between supervising the carpet cleaning and sprinkler repairs, I started rearranging my Nana's (paternal grandmother) oil paintings. One thing led to another, and before I knew it they were all gathered in one sunny room (pardon the glare on a few) so I could get pictures to share.

Nana's Cottage
This is my Nana's home in Palo Alto, Ca - 1964. I have so many precious memories of the time we spent together in her kitchen, studio, and garden.  My favorite!!

Nana's cottage porchI have the small cast iron chair from her front porch and some of the little treasures you can see through the frosted glass panels.

black and white photo vintage
Here's a black and white photo of me standing on the porch in my little white hoodie.

A path in the woods - 1954
I'm looking for a different frame for this one.

oil painting village vintage
Close up of the little village at the end of the path.

pink roses oil painting vintage
I'm sure this is why I love pink roses  - 1964.

desert oil painting vintage
I like this one, but don't love it.  Maybe it's because it looks too hot and there's too much sky.  It's also the largest of the group and I don't have a place to hang it.

home in desert oil painting vintage
I love this part.  Would it be awful if I cut it down and framed just this section?

home sweet home oil painting vintage kitchen
This one is the smallest of the group and another favorite of mine because of the style.  Her signature disappeared years ago when my aunt trimmed it down so it would fit inside this frame.

god bless our home oil painting sign vintage
God Bless Our Home.

vintage kitchen oil painting cabinet
I'd love to have the real-life version of this cabinet and the contents.

New England vintage oil painting seaside town
Can I have three favorites?  This is one of many coastal towns she painted over the years. Born and raised in Massachusetts, it's no surprise that she loved painting these quaint little towns.

I want to live here!
My Nana's paintings were divided among all the family members when she passed away in 1975.  I feel so blessed that these have made their way into my heart over the past 40 years.  Do you have a family treasure you'd never part with?
